With a focus on risk and compliance most contract management strategies are hindered by poor relationships and worrying about what could go wrong.

Contract Managers trained in old techniques or not trained at all are expected to manage portfolios and increasing numbers of contractors and suppliers who are actually better at managing them. A different approach to risk (and reward) and a focus on making things better is required to improve performance and reduce cost.
